“Glory to the Precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ”
Proverbs 24: 17
Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
We, the bride, the church should not rejoice when evil comes upon others.
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the portion of the Bible that we meditated upon in the past days, we meditated that we, the bride, the church should be steadfast in the Lord.
Next what we are meditating upon is that 2 Samuel 1: 1 - 5 Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag,
on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself.
And David said to him, “Where have you come from?” So he said to him, “I have escaped from the camp of Israel.”
Then David said to him, “How did the matter go? Please tell me.” And he answered, “The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”
So David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?”
In the above-mentioned verses, what is given is that after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag, on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul’s camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself. And David said to him, “Where have you come from?” So he said to him, “I have escaped from the camp of Israel.” Then David said to him, “How did the matter go? Please tell me.” And he answered, “The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.” So David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?” That young man said that I went by chance to be on Mount Gilboa.
2 Samuel 1: 6 – 17
Then the young man who told him said, “As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.
Now when he looked behind him, he saw me and called to me. And I answered, ‘Here I am.’
And he said to me, ‘Who are you?’ So I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
He said to me again, ‘Please stand over me and kill me, for anguish has come upon me, but my life still remains in me.’
So I stood over him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. And I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm and have brought them here to my lord.”
Therefore David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him.
And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
Then David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” And he answered, “I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite.”
So David said to him, “How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?”
Then David called one of the young men and said, “Go near, and execute him!” And he struck him so that he died.
So David said to him, “Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have killed the Lord’s anointed.’”
Then David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son,
As soon as he said the above-mentioned words, David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword. Then David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” And he answered, “I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite.” So David said to him, “How was it you were not afraid to put forth your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed?” Then David called one of the young men and said, “Go near, and execute him!” And he struck him so that he died. So David said to him, “Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have killed the Lord’s anointed.’” Then David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son.
My dear people, the thing what we are seeing here is that God, through Samuel the prophet what he said regarding Saul and his sons truly happened and we can know that. Also, God saw how Saul was working against his servant David and the sword that was in his hand only killed him. But how much ever difficulty David experienced due to Saul, the mind of David did not agree to kill him. Also, Saul who was anointed by the Lord is falling down and dying in the hands of those who were uncircumcised. He is being killed by them. Not only that but their head is being cut by the Philistines. The reason for this was the jealousy of the Israelites and the disobedience to the Lord and each one of us must understand this.
Also, what we must understand is that David who heard the news that Saul had died did not rejoice and there he and his men are lamenting. But in these days, what kind of people are we and we must analyse and know ourselves. Also, if we will work against those who are anointed by the Lord then that will bring the anger of the Lord upon us. The reason why God is showing this as a pattern is that if we do not obey God and give place in our soul for the evil spirit due to the evil deeds of the Philistines in our soul, the anointing that the Lord gave us will be lost. Then we will fight against the Spirit of the Philistines and will struggle as we are not able to win. The reason is the Lord will also go away far from us. Also, we will not be able to stand and will sink down. They will be no one to give us a hand. In this manner our soul will lose the life that it had received, and we will be ashamed. Therefore, we must always be as the children of Christ repented and renew ourselves and be as those who obey the Lord always and as those without jealousy and not doing evil to others and we must be as those who do good to those who do evil. In this manner let us submit ourselves to the Lord.
Let us pray. May the Lord bless you all abundantly.
