My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in the portion of the
Bible which we meditated on in the past days, we see that Abraham sent his
servant to his country and his family to get a wife for his son Isaac.
In the same way, we see that the servant obeyed and prayed to
God and brought the right bride for Isaac. The promise that God gave Abraham
that your generation will be called was fulfilled through Isaac whom Sarah bore
which God gave us as a pattern. We see that Isaac’s wife Rebekah was blessed
and sent by her family saying, “Our sister, may you become The mother of
thousands of ten thousands; And may your descendants possess the gates
of those who hate them.”
This is to show how Christ’s bride – the churches will be
blessed and how these churches with possess the gates of those who hate them.
Abraham died after he had possessed all the promises that God
had given him. They buried him in the cave of Machpelah.
But Ishmael who was born to Abraham by Hagar breathed his last
and died at one hundred and thirty-seven years and was gathered to his people.
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife. Now
Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord
granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
Genesis 25: 22 But the children struggled together within her;
and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So, she went to inquire of
the Lord.
Genesis 25: 23 And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in
your womb, two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be
stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”
So, when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed
there were twins in her womb.
This God is showing us the church as a pattern. There are two
types of people inside the church. One are those with fleshly thoughts and the
second are those with spiritual thoughts. For to be carnally minded is death,
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. In the same way in our soul
double thoughts will occur. We must destroy the flesh with Christ’s spirit and
walk according to the Spirit.
That is why in Romans 8: 13 For if you live according to the
flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the
body, you will live.
We see that the two children that Rebekah had came from the same
womb. But the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so,
they called his name Esau. The younger one came out holding Esau’s heel; so,
his name was called Jacob. Both grew up.
When Esau grew up he became a skillful hunter and a man of the
field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.
Whatever Esau hunted and brought his father Isaac found it very
tasty to eat. So, Isaac loved Esau more.
Esau came in from the field, and he was weary, and Jacob was cooking
a stew. Because Jacob was a mild man and was dwelling in tents, so his mother Rebekah
loved Jacob more.
Because Esau came from the field weary, he said to Jacob,
“Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore, his name
was called Edom.
Genesis 25: 31 But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of
this day.”
Genesis 25: 32 – 34 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so,
what is this birthright to me?”
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So, he swore to
him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.
And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and
drank, arose, and went his way. Thus, Esau despised his birthright.
From this we understand that it is written about Jacob that he
was a mild man and dwelt in tents as a pattern of Christ’s church. Esau is
going out and coming back by this God is showing us that he is dwelling outside
the church. They are twins one is flesh and one is spirit. We must destroy
fleshly thoughts by God’s spirit. That is why when Jacob was coming out from
his mother’s womb he was holding on to Esau’s heel.
In order to show us that to be carnally minded is death Esau is
telling Jacob that he is going to die. The soul of those with fleshly thoughts
will die.
Also, Esau who is coming from outside is weary. The weary is
losing his birthright. The one who was mild and dwelt in the tents was
comforted by his mother and receives the birthright.
From this we need to think regarding how we must live.
Let us pray. May the Lord bless you all.
